On November 28th, L.A. Chargers Cornerback Essang Bassey joined Easterseals for a holiday open house at Easterseals Autism Therapy Center in Irvine. Essang helped Easterseals celebrate GivingTuesday and raised awareness about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) while interacting with families who receive autism services.
Essang’s support for Easterseals stems from the special bond he shares with his older brother, Efiong, who has autism. “He’s my motivation every day,” says Essang. “I want to raise awareness about autism through organizations like Easterseals Southern California, which provides life-changing services to people with ASD and their families. It’s particularly important to get the word out in communities of color, where there are more barriers to treatment.”
During the event, Essang played games with the kids, interacted with families, and shared his passion for raising awareness about autism support and services. The children in attendance also enjoyed snacks, face painting, arts and crafts, games, and a gifting station with toys to take home.
