Easterseals Child Development Services Hosts Child Care Resource Center Event Honoring State Senator Connie Leyva

The Child Care Resource Center recently hosted an event at ESSC’s Montclair Child Development Center honoring California State Senator Connie Leyva for the work she’s done in the community to improve child care funding in the State’s 2021-22 budget.

Also in attendance was Tony Thurmond, California State Superintendent of Public Institution, who commended Senator Leyva, saying, “We should all rally behind champions like Senator Connie Leyva.”

Director of Child Development Services Elizabeth Mulligan spoke at the event, personally thanking Senator Leyva for her help in improving the lives of the children and families who attend ESSC’s Child Development Centers across Southern California. Elizabeth says, “The senate bill that she led established a single reimbursement rate system to improve the quality of early childhood care programs funded by the state of California. She worked to increase the funds to support higher compensation for teachers, increase the quality of programs, and recognize the diversity in California.”

ESSC families attended to share their thanks as well. Below is mom Elisha with her child from Valley View Center next to Superintendent Thurmond. On the left is Elisha’s mom Sandi.
